Suspected drug trafficker Jack Wolf was released from Industrial Area remand prison on Friday evening.
The British national had been in police custody for close to two weeks for allegedly trafficking 99.7 kg cocaine worth Sh598 million,
Wolf was released after his father David Marrian and brother Hunter were approved by a Kibera court as his sureties.
They deposited a Sh140 million bond, money which was being held by Commercial Bank of Africa.
The bank clarified on Friday that it was not the suspect’s surety .
Group MD Isaac Awuondo said CBA’s involvement in the case was limited to giving the guarantee requested by its client to court.
Awuondo said in a public notice: “In relation to articles appearing in the online media, the Commercial Bank of Africa Limited wishes to clarify that it received a request from a client, a legal firm, to issue to Kibera law court bank guarantees in the amount of Sh140 million in respect of an ongoing court case.”
The bank had confirmed it would give the amount to the state if Wolf failed to appear in court.
Wolf denied charges of trafficking the cocaine and was granted release on Sh70 million bond.
The DPP had moved to the High Court to block Wolf’s release arguing he was a flight risk since he was a British citizen.
But the High Court upheld the decision to release the accused on bond.
Wolf was charged alongside Roy Mwanthi, a director of a clearing company, whose bond was set as Sh60 million.
